New Study Explains How Low-Carb Diet Reduces Inflammation

I’ve insinuated it here before but I will say it again. Obesity is a rheumatologic disorder.

The Ketogenic Diet isn’t just a treatment–understanding how and why it works gives insight into the obesity complex.

In a recent study, it was discovered that ketone–specifically our friend β-hydroxybutyrate-suppresses NLRP3 inflammasome and the cytokines they mediate.
Cytokines can contribute to poor health, and various medical conditions, such as an increased risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, arthritis and even clinical depression or Alzheimer’s.

Compare this to white adipocytes which actually produce cytokines–so much so that recent research has led to the neologism “adipokines” to describe the rheumatologic implications of an abundant white fat layer.

Stored white adipose layer behaves in exactly the opposite way that MOBILIZED fat does.
